Connected Nottinghamshire’s Public-Facing Digital Health and Care Services Programme have been SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2020 HSJ AWARDS for revolutionising healthcare on behalf of Patients and Professionals with the NHS App and Patients Know Best (PKB) integration initiative.
Today, the partnership is delighted to announce that the regional deployment of the landmark NHS App and PKB integration, pioneered by Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s Integrated Care Systems (ICS) Digital Transformation Team, Connected Nottinghamshire, has been shortlisted for the Digitising Patient Services Initiative at the 2020 HSJ Awards, recognising this outstanding contribution to healthcare.
The partnership programme from Connected Nottinghamshire, NHS Digital and Patients Know Best has been shortlisted despite the tough competition from over 1000 entries. It has been selected based on its ambition, visionary spirit and ability to demonstrate collaborative working in order to meet the local needs for digital health and care services across Nottinghamshire’s health and care workforce and positively impact patient experiences within the health and social care sector.
The judging panel is made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community including: Sir Bruce Keogh, Chair, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s FT, Mark Axcell, Chief Executive, Black Country Healthcare FT and Caroline Beardall, Director of Workforce and OD, NHS England and NHS Improvement – South East.
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have given their population access to all personal health and care information through a single application. Utilising the national NHS App (powered by NHS Digital) interface, Patients Know Best’s full features and functionality became one of the first products to integrate with NHS login’s new encrypted single sign-on and the first personal health record to integrate with the NHS App.
The ground-breaking work accelerated by Connected Nottinghamshire has meant the region’s population have been the first to benefit from this integration in March 2020. It supported the ICS to fulfil the requirements of their Public-Facing Digital Services mandate for empowering local people to better manage their health, to self-care, self-manage and self-serve. However, the launch came as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was being realised. This has propelled registered patients across the region to safely self-manage their care, with full control over who can see their information and provide support remotely. Furthermore, and most critically, it has allowed families to stay connected with their loved ones being cared for in the Intensive Care Unit at Sherwood Forest Hospital. Please see this article from our partners, PKB about how the practical impact of the project is changing health and care in the region.
Alexis Farrow, Head of Strategy and Transformation at Connected Nottinghamshire said “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Digitising Patient Services Award, recognising the collaborative efforts and dedication of our staff members over the last 12 months to successfully implement the NHS App - PKB integration and offer our residents access and control of their health information, empowering them to take control and manage their health, particularly during this difficult pandemic. More than 60,000 patients have registered with the NHS App in Nottinghamshire to date and we are committed to delivering improved outcomes for our population. To be chosen among the other incredible nominees is a wonderful achievement. This nomination has been a tremendous boost to staff across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, and for our partners, and I am sure it will bolster our continued efforts to improve our services.”
Dr Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, CEO and Founder of Patients Know Best added: “This programme demonstrates the best of local care innovating on national strategy through supplier partnership. Using innovation and the common goal of empowering people with access and control of their health information to support them to manage their health and care, we’ve been able to develop a pioneering approach in Nottinghamshire which is also now being rolled out in other regions. We’re absolutely delighted to be announced as finalists for the HSJ Awards 2020. A big thank you to all those individuals at Connected Nottinghamshire, NHS Digital and of course within our team at PKB, that have worked tirelessly over the past 12 months, even amidst this pandemic, to get us to this point here and now.”
