Project Board Key Messages, December 2020

Each month our Notts NHS App – Personal Health and Care Record Programme Board meet to discuss progress of the project. After each board meeting key messages are provided to members and stakeholders. As the project progresses, the key messages will be released here too.


Key messages from the December Public Facing Digital Services (PFDS) Programme Board




  • 62,264 of our citizens have downloaded the NHS App
  • 48,247 people registered for a PKB record (as of 7/12/20)
    • 26,097 registrations have been claimed through Primary Care (increase of 2,781 since last month)
    • 22,150 registrations have been claimed through Sherwood Forest Hospitals (increase of 16,829 since last month)
  • During November, patients sent 1072 messages via PKB to practices (246 more than last month)
  • 1,688 digital appointment letters have been read before print date, meaning that this has saved SFHFT from posting 1,688 letters (from go live to 3/11/20)




  • Following PFDS Board approval, SFHFT Out Patients Innovation Board and have approved and signed off the Trusts PKB implementation roadmap which will mean that a series of projects will be kicked off next month.


Primary Care


  • LES payments for Practices to help with the implementation of the PKB aspect of the Notts NHS App in primary care will be available for those practices that book training by the end of February 2021, training can take place post February but it must be booked in by then. These practices will also need to  undertake the pre implementation requirements. For further information or to book in a training/business change session please contact


  • Single Sign-on from SystmOne/EMIS is available, this means that when using the system as a professional you will not need to log on to a separate system to access the additional information in PKB.
  • Integration with SystmOne/EMIS – We are the leading area on working with structured messaging using the new Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) messaging, something that all system suppliers need to move to as part of the new GP IT Futures contract. Using this technology it is now possible for the results of a Notts NHS App questionnaire (e.g. Asthma) to be sent to straight into workflow. This document will already be linked to the relevant patient eliminating the potential for error when transcribing between systems. This functionality will be rolled out from January 2021 for those practices that would like it.


  • As part of the assurance framework for the Public Facing Digital Services (PFDS) programme we have ensured that the system meets all of the new CQC criteria. The Notts NHS App has also been independently reviewed by a national cyber security centre partner, this has shown that it is among the top 5% of all systems reviewed (across all sectors).

Communication and Engagement


We’re proud to announce that Connected Nottinghamshire, Patients Know Best and NHS Digital have been shortlisted as finalists in the HSJ Awards 2020 within the Digitising Patient Services Initiative category, for revolutionising healthcare on behalf of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Patients and Professionals. Empowering patients to manage their health and care, whilst enabling greater capacity and quality of care across our workforce has been the core driver for Digitising Patient Services. The Notts NHS App vision has been achieved through partnership working to meet local needs, to find out more or to register for the virtual ceremony click here


The PFDS Programme Board approved on-going external communication options to accelerate promotional activity of the Notts NHS App. A three month local radio and DAX advert campaign, alongside social media advertising will be held in the new year, following further analysis into demographics to target.  


Patient Advisory Group


This month the Patient Advisory Group were introduced to the range of projects that have been developed under the Get Nottinghamshire Connected Digital Inclusion programme. The group discussed how to improve the sustainability of some of the projects and gave helpful feedback on how to help users maintain their digital skills after receiving input from Get Nottinghamshire Connected. The PAG also spoke to Sophie Randall, the director of the Patient Information Forum, and learnt about their work with Connected Nottinghamshire to improve the awareness of digital and health literacy across the programme.


Patient Power!


National award winning Nottinghamshire Carers Roadshow founder Mr Trevor Clower, who is also a member of PFDS Patient Advisory Group, is helping and supporting our PFDS programme. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 his Carers Roadshow has gone virtual and you can find the link to Trevor’s virtual Carers Roadshow is on our website: Trevor is also helping to promote the Notts NHS App and he has included plenty of videos about the Notts NHS App on his virtual Carers Roadshow.  In addition, Trevor has created a video about his experiences of the Notts NHS App that can be found on our microsite:  Trevor has worked with colleagues from Patients Know Best and will present the Carers Passport v1 to CityCare carers network working group early next month.
